Our Story

From 15 tools in a carriage house to a county-wide resource

Sonoma County Tool Library has a simple mission: expanding free, equitable access to resources that strengthen our community. Tools empower residents to take action: repairing, creating, and building resilience.

  1. 2008

    Founded in a carriage house

Dustin Zuckerman starts lending about 15 personal tools from a one-bedroom carriage house in Santa Rosa.

  2. The years since

    Grown by neighbors

Trust, word of mouth and donated tools grow the collection; volunteers step in to run it.

  3. 2026

    A new chapter

Martin Reed becomes the first Executive Director, and the library is renamed Sonoma County Tool Library.
